Canada was certainly further than Nikolai had been intending to travel with Toa for an endurance race, but the setting and length of ride seemed perfect for the Kaimanawa, especially as they'd already been training for something similar for months. He travelled over in the plane better than expected, his fear of vehicles muted somewhat, now that they all knew to plug his ears so he wouldn't hear the engine running.

Once out in the wilderness however, he immediately relaxed. The park was like a home from home - endless miles of forest and river.
When they came to the first river crossing, Toa was tentative at first, keeping his nose close to the surface of the water while Nikolai gave him a long rein and the freedom to pick his own way across.
