When Abigail told Megan McLeod that she and her favourite of the riding school ponies, Merrion, would be going to the Rosewood EC POYS she nearly fell off her pony in shock.

'Really? But, but, but how? Why me?'

Abigail laughed and ruffled the little grey gelding's mane, fondly.

'Well, we wanted to take Merry out for his first 'big show' and when it came to choosing a rider, only one name popped up and that was yours. You ride him exceptionally well, and your flatwork is especially good so it wasn't a difficult decision really!'

Her expression became darker, but there was a twinkle in her eye all the same.

'Of course this does mean that you'll have to get him all groomed and plaited up yourself - turnout has to be perfect!'

Megan nodded furiously and flung her arms around her pony's neck.

'He'll be the shiniest, most beautiful, dappliest pony ever, I promise!'
